Accounting Specialist | AAS
Accounting is an area that continues to grow with many well-paid local opportunities. This program prepares students in all areas of accounting and finance. This degree is transferable to four-year schools.
Students in this program will enjoy small class sizes and fun classroom experiences that go beyond traditional lecture, such as Accounting Club, Accounting Student of the Year Award, Service Learning and Internship Opportunities.
Students must earn a "C" or better in all core courses before participating in an internship, service learning, or on-the-job training. A "C" or better in all core courses is also required for graduation.
NOTE: If students choose to volunteer with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) to meet their Service Learning requirement, they must have already taken ACC 261 Income Tax Accounting or be taking in concurrently in the Spring semester. VITA will require a weekly commitment during tax season. Join the WITCC Accounting Club and have some fun!
Accounting students are strongly encouraged to join the WIT Accounting Club. The objective of the Accounting Club is to promote and explore education and career options for those considering the accounting field. It also provides networking opportunities between students and accounting professionals in the Siouxland area. Activities of the club include guest speakers, resume exchange, mock interviews, college visits from local four-year universities, career preparation (dress for success, etc.), employment opportunities, and registration assistance/advising. Club members also attend industry related conferences and host the annual WITCC Easter Egg Hunt and Accounting Luncheon in partnership with the Alumni Association. Club meetings are held Tuesdays at 12:00 pm.
