Advanced Emergency Medical Technician | Cert
This certificate will provide the student with roles and responsibilities of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and to prepare competent entry-level Advanced Emergency Medical Technician in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. The well-being including injury prevention and infectious disease; an overview of human systems; pharmacology; venous access; airway management; training for management of medical and trauma emergencies; special considerations of the obstetric, neonatal, pediatric, and geriatric patients; and a focus on assessment based management. This course will also provide the student the opportunity to apply past and current cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills in a supervised clinical and/or field setting. Student must have current Iowa EMT certification, AHA BLS Provider card - CPR, and state approved Mandatory Reporter Certificates for Child and Dependent Adult. Instructor consent required. Successful completion of course requirements will qualify students to take the NREMT certification examination for Advanced Emergency Medical Technician.
Students are responsible for all transporation to and from clinical and field experiences.

Entrance Requirements
- Students must submit an application to the Office of Admissions at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
- Students must have a high school transcript or equivalency diploma.
- Current Iowa EMT certification card.
- Current AHA BLS Provider Card - CPR
- Current Mandatory Reporter Certificates (Child and Dependent Adult)
- Students will also be required to have a physical (submitted on a Western Iowa Tech Health Evaluation form) and up-to-date immunizations in order to complete clinical requirements. Physicals can be obtained free of charge at the Western Iowa Tech Health Clinic.
