Project SUCCESS is a 4+ program that provides special education to students in need at the college level. It helps qualifying students transition from high school to college with a bridge of support. Students in the program remain connected to their high school through their active IEP and are treated as full-time college students by Western Iowa Tech. Students continue to work on their IEP goals during Project SUCCESS classes and study hall time and they attend regular classes within the degree or certificate program of their choice. Project SUCCESS’s program goal is to prepare students to be successful on their own.
What to Expect
Students in the program receive a one-stop-shop approach to college support. The program director will be their college advisor while they are in the program and will be their first point of contact. The director works with the student, family, and degree program to create a schedule that will give the student their best possibilities for success. That schedule will include one class in Project SUCCESS, required study hall hours, and an adjusted courseload designed to give the student time to get used to the college pace.
Coursework
Project SUCCESS requires students to take one class per semester within the program and classes cover topics like how to succeed in college, teamwork, planning, organizing, personal finance, career preparation, problem solving, and many others. Students often work together on projects and each class fosters the development of friendships and community.
Eligibility
- Must be referred by your high school IEP team at least two months before graduation
- Must maintain IEP eligibility while in the program
- Must be between 17 and 21 years of age
How To Enroll
- Complete and sign Student Referral Form from high school
- Complete Western Iowa Tech Application
- Interview with Project SUCCESS staff
- Students who plan to attend Western Iowa Tech in the Fall semester are required to have the above enrollment items completed by March 31
Vocational and Certificate Program Options
Students in Project SUCCESS may enroll in any degree field offered at Western Iowa Tech.
