Graduates, please plan to check-in for line-up between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm, you will be directed where to line up once inside.
Graduates, family, and friends will all enter through the Prime Bank Box office doors. 

Western Iowa Tech Community College does not require tickets for its Commencement Ceremony, so graduates can invite an unlimited number of guests.

Ceremony Information

  • Due to safety/security protocols at Tyson, graduates are required to stay on the arena floor for the entire ceremony - plan accordingly.
  • Graduates are required to be dressed in their regalia and in their seats during the ceremony.
  • If you want individual and/or family photos taken, please plan to arrive before 5pm. If you do not intend to have photos taken, please plan to arrive between 4:30 and 5pm to allow time to pick up your cap and gown (if you have not yet done so) and receive instructions for the processional.
  • Participants in the graduation ceremony are presented as candidates for their respective awards.
  • If you are eligible for more than one certificate/diploma/degree, your name is listed in the program for all awards, but you will only walk across the stage once for the highest award received.
  • Graduates who completed their program requirements in December of 2024 will be listed in the commencement program.
  • At commencement you will receive a diploma cover. See Diplomas for more information.
Guests: There is no limit on the number of family and friends who can attend the ceremony. No tickets are required, the event is free to attend.

Honor, Military, and PTK Cords

Recognition cords for honor students (cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher) and military students will be distributed during cap and gown pick up on April 15 and April 16, 2025, between 9 am and 4 pm in the Robert E. Dunker Student Center.

** To earn an honor cord, students must achieve a 3.50 grade point average. Because we do not have spring grades recorded prior to the commencement ceremony, only courses completed through the fall 2024 semester are included in this GPA calculation.

Tyson Events Center Policies and Parking

Clear Bag Policy

Tyson Events Center has implemented a clear bag policy. Western Iowa Tech follows all security policies of Tyson Events Center. Graduates typically find it beneficial to leave any bags in the care of family or friends during the ceremony, as there is no place for them to secure these items.

Parking

Please plan accordingly because Commencement Ceremony parking at the Tyson Events Center may be congested.

Food and Drink

No outside food or drink is allowed. Water is available for purchase. Please note the Tyson Events Center is cashless.

Security

All students, faculty, staff, and guests will be required to go through security as they enter the building. Tyson Events Center prohibits bringing balloons into the building.

Western Iowa Tech follows all rules and regulations set by Tyson Events Center.

Photography

Commencement Ceremony photos will be taken by Ceremony Photos.
Photos will be available for purchase approximately two weeks after the Commencement Ceremony.

Spring Graduates

All students who anticipate graduating in May must apply for graduation February 10 through April 18, 2025, to receive their degree, diploma, or certificate. August and December 2024 graduates are invited to participate in the spring Commencement Ceremony on May 13, 2025.

  • You must apply for graduation each semester you complete a credential even if you are continuing classes in future semesters. You must apply for graduation even if you do not intend to participate in the ceremony.
    • To apply for graduation, log into MyWIT.
    • Under Academic Self Service, click "Graduation Application"
    • At the right of the screen, click "Apply"
    • Fill out all the required information and click "Submit"
    • Click on "Back to degree process" to view your confirmation.
  • Once you apply for graduation, the College will complete a degree audit to ensure you have met all graduation requirements.
  • You will be notified ONLY if you have not met graduation requirements (required courses, total credit hours, and/or GPA requirement).
  • Another degree audit will be conducted when final grades are submitted.

Caps and Gowns

  • Pick up will be April 15 and April 16, 2025, from 9 am - 4 pm.
    Sioux City pick up at the Dunker Student Center.
    Denison and Cherokee students will pick up at the main desk on your campus.
  • If you missed the graduation cap and gown pick up days. Cap and gown will be available in Admissions starting April 17, M-F 8:15 am - 4:30 pm, until May 12, 2025.
  • Western Iowa Tech does not charge for your cap, gown, and tassel. They are yours to keep.

    Official Transcripts

    Official transcripts can be ordered electronically or by mail for $8 per transcript. Mailed transcripts may take up to ten days. Order official transcript. You have three processing options when ordering your official transcript:

    • Send Now: transcript send immediately without pending grades or graduation.
    • After Grades: transcript sent when the current semester's grades have been included.
    • After Degree: transcript sent when your degree has been awarded.

    Diplomas

    Graduates can now receive an official digital version of your diploma through Parchment. Your paper diploma will still be mailed to you a few weeks after receiving your digital diploma. 

    • When your diploma is issued, you will receive a claim email and/or text from Parchment.
    • Click on the green "Access Your Credential" button in the email or click on the link in text.
    • Either sign in or create a new account.
    • Verify your email address to be directed to the Parchment dashboard.
    • Once in the dashboard, you can Share, Download, and Preview your diploma.
    • A duplicate diploma can be requested through Parchment for $20 per request.

    Reception for Graduates

    Western Iowa Tech will be hosting its fourth annual Reception for Graduates. It's an opportunity to celebrate the incredible achievements of our students. The reception is free and open to all students who graduated in December 2024 or May 2025 including high school equivalency, English language learners, and graduates of certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees. The reception is not a replacement for the Commencement Ceremony.

    Heavy appetizers, non-alcoholic beverages, and desserts will be provided. We encourage students to wear traditional regalia or clothing that is representative of their ancestral roots or backgrounds.

    Cherokee: May 7 from 6-7 pm, Cherokee Campus
    Denison: May 6 from 6 - 8 pm, The Stables at Copper Ridge, 2199 Ridge Road, Denison
    Sioux City: May 12 from 6 – 8pm, Rocklin Conference Center, Sioux City Campus
