Gary Powell
Gary Powell is a highly experienced law enforcement instructor with a strong background in both criminal justice and military service. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and has extensive training as a K9 handler/trainer, shift supervisor, and in various specialized law enforcement areas, including crime scene investigation, combat tactics, and explosives. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Gary served for six years, gaining expertise in combat and anti-tank tactics.
With over 22 years of law enforcement experience, Gary has been a dedicated educator for 22 years, teaching Police Science at Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC). He has also taught at the Iowa Regional Law Enforcement Academy for 18 years. Gary is certified in crime scene investigation and defensive tactics (although his certifications are expired), and he has K9 certification as well.
Throughout his career, Gary has earned recognition for his teaching excellence, including five nominations for Teacher of the Year at WITCC and the prestigious NISOD Award. His passion for law enforcement education, combined with his real-world experience, makes him a respected figure in both the classroom and the field.
