Classes for Teens
Teen Driver's Ed at Western Iowa Tech offers professional driving instruction for teen drivers, ages 14-17. The class gives 30 hours of class time and six hours of behind-the-wheel training for you to learn parallel parking, freeway merges and lane changes, accident prevention and driving in different traffic environments. Drive times are held throughout the week with the exception of Sundays.
Considerable classroom time is spent on the effects of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, railroad crossing safety, sharing the road with bicycles and motorcycles, and ways to safely handle emergency situations such as stalls, breakdowns and blowouts.
This program follows State of Iowa Department of Transportation and Department of Education guidelines.
Classes for Adults
Adult Drivers Ed (for adults 18 years and older) consists of 4 hours of classroom and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. The classroom portion will cover: driver responsibilities, signs, signals, roadway markings, basic vehicle control, managing risk, and basic vehicle maneuvers. The behind the wheel instruction allows for the students to implement what they have learned in the class room. Learner Permit is required at time of registration. This is a non-certificate training program.
