Siouxland Palliative Care, a division of Hospice of Siouxland, differs from hospice care as it caters to patients with non-terminal illnesses while they undergo treatment. Description: Join Tom Munson as he delves into the fascinating world of Philip C. Waltermire Photography. In 1891, Waltermire established his photography studio in Sioux City, marking the beginning of a legacy that would capture the essence
of the city's history. While renowned for his portraiture, Waltermire's lens also immortalized significant events in Sioux City, such as the Corn Palace festivals, the 1892 Floyd River Flood, fires, military encampments, and parades. During the summers, Waltermire's studio found a new home at Riverside Park. He skillfully documented the vibrant recreational activities at boat clubs along the Big Sioux River and the electrifying atmosphere of the Interstate Fair events. Through Waltermire's lens, the spirit and dynamism of Sioux City during that era were vividly preserved, offering a timeless glimpse into its past.

Description: While sheltering in place during COVID, Pamela Douglas felt a profound call to address our collective loss through creativity, and recognize COVID victims as individuals. Using paper cranes, she created a memorial symbolizing love and healing. Starting in 2020 with 1,500 cranes, the installation grew to over 10,797 by 2023. Douglas folded most of them, representing each Iowan lost to COVID. Each crane, adorned with handwritten names where known, embodies the memory of a loved one lost to the pandemic. Come meet the artist as she shares how the memorial has grown and traveled across Iowa, offering healing to our communities.

Description: In the past few years, there has been a significant surge in society's fascination with true crime. It seems that humans are inherently drawn to stories that are more bizarre and shocking than anything fiction could conjure. Accounts of murder often captivate our attention and compel us to unravel the puzzle, seeking to understand what drives a criminal to commit such heinous acts and how we can safeguard ourselves and our loved ones. Even more intriguing may be those that occur right in your own community. Contrary to popular belief, violent crimes and horrific homicides do not solely occur in major cities. Sioux City has a long history of crime and murder, dating back to its very foundation. Sarah Enright, Local History Librarian Specialist at the Sioux City Public Library and a true crime fan herself, uses the library's resources, such as archived newspaper clippings, microfilm, databases, and web resources, to construct detailed narratives of local cases encompassing historic homicides, cold cases, and missing persons. Attendees will be encouraged to share their memories and comments as the cases are discussed.

It is a loose collection of texts consisting of magic spells intended to assist a dead person through their journey from Duat, or underworld, into the afterlife. It was written by many

Description: Although World War II began in Europe with the German invasion of Poland in September 1939, the United States refused to commit its armed forces to the conflict until the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Once committed, the U. S. military shared the burden of war against Nazi Germany with the Soviet Union and Great Britain. In the Pacific, however, American forces bore most of the weight of the war with Japan. While the U. S. Army and Army Air Corps took the lead in Europe, leadership in the Pacific Theater was assigned to the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps. Sioux City area residents were involved in every major engagement of the Pacific War from the Battle of Midway and the fight for Guadalcanal in 1942 to the Battle of Iwo Jima and the recapture of the Philippines in 1945. Join Matt Anderson for an overview of the Pacific campaign and accounts of the contributions made by local people.
