As the pandemic made its way into Siouxland, Western Iowa Tech adeptly pivoted to a 100% virtual learning modality in a short period of time. Our students are prepared and equipped for remote learning with Apple MacBook notebook computers due to the College’s one-to-one technology initiative.

The College extended this program and provided laptops to adult learners earning a high school equivalency diploma.

Students with limited or no internet in their homes are provided MiFis. The Western Iowa Tech IT department added beacons to extend the College’s wireless network to campus parking lots while campus buildings are closed.

The Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) represents Western Iowa Tech’s commitment to the continuing important of educational quality.

Western Iowa Tech launched the Cengage online textbook initiative in March 2020, which has saved students $$$$$ and has given them access on their MacBook notebook computers. Read more.
From 2.1 million pages in 2015, campuses have reduced the number of pages printed to 34,000 in 2021.

“Snow days” are a thing of the past. MacBook computers allow classes to meet on “virtual days.”

The two days of Staff Development each spring and fall semester have been totally virtual since spring 2019.

Western Iowa Tech has piloted a totally virtual Video Game Development program in Cambodia.
VR goggles have been introduced in our Surgical Tech program.

The replacement of the old phone system with Zoom Phone and iPod Pros allows employees to take calls on MacBook computers, iPads, iPhones…any device, anywhere.

Two additional mental health counselors were hired during the pandemic and counseling services were offered by Zoom for the first time.
