The Beta Zeta Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society at Western Iowa Tech Community College achieved outstanding success at the Iowa Regional Convention held February 28, 2025, in Des Moines. The chapter brought home the Most Distinguished Awards in every Chapter Hallmark category, highlighting the hard work and leadership of its members and advisors.

Several students and advisors also received recognition at the individual level. All of Beta Zeta Mu’s regional individual award winners have earned honors at the international level as well, with more international award announcements expected during the April PTK Catalyst Convention.

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in higher education, with nearly 1,300 chapters across the United States and in several international locations.

  • Distinguished Community College State Director: Emily Shields (Nominated by Sima Dabir on behalf of the Beta Zeta Mu chapter and Iowa Region)
  • Coca-Cola Gold Scholars: Kevin Romo (will attend Iowa State University on a full-tuition scholarship) and Hector Vega Aceves (will attend Iowa State University on a full-tuition scholarship)
  • All-Iowa Academic Team Recognition: Kevin Romo and Hector Vega Aceves were honored on February 18 and 28, 2025, in Des Moines.
